At the lake

At the lake zine is the 1st part from a trilogy that unfold stories from a couple of hundreds photos that found in the trash. The family photos made between the beginning of 1950 to the late 1970 and tell a lot of visual stories in the socialist times through the eyes of an unknown talented amateur photographer. Besides the strong historical memories and objects that reflect on this time-period the photos also represent a timeless beauty and harmony.

The 2nd part of the trilogy highlights the photos and details or part of the photos that reflect on the historical memories through family events, while the 3rd part of the trilogy is a selection of the photos that deals with gender perspectives.

at the lake review and the description from the zine:

Lake Balaton is the largest lake in Central Europe and a popular domestic tourism center for vacationing Hungarian families. At the lake zine introduces everyday life at Lake Balaton, the “Hungarian Sea”, through a family photo series. The photos are part of a series found in public garbage bin and were taken between 1958 and 1972 on the lakeshore. Similarly to my family, this unknown family spent the summers with their only child at Zamárdi. We both experienced the institution of socialist holidays – 30 years apart.
